Hi Guys,

i don't know if this forum is still active as the last post dates from over a year ago.
Anyway, i'm going to take my chances ;-)

Munkman ! ... i just found and implemented your authentication script ... very nice, works like a charm.
Thanks a million for that !

However, i have one question.
Since MySQL is about end-of-life ... would it be possible to give your authentication script a MySQLi update ?
It would give your script a nice future ... and it would help me out big time as i'm doing a terrible job in updating it ;-)
Would be very much appreciated.

R 'n R !

How do you mean MySQL is nearly at EOL?  You should be able to update to the latest version...

To be honest I haven't worked on any PHP for a long time now so won't be updating anything I'm afraid but didn't want to take the scripts down in case they were still of use to someone.

I did upgrade my PHP version recently and did notice there were some errors so it might be the case with the simpleauth scripts that there are errors because of that.

But I'd not heard of anything to do with MySQL being killed off?!  Can't believe that to be honest!  Let me know what you mean... Smiley

Hi Munk ... thanks for this swift reply.
No worries ... i'm just talking about the connector in PHP :

" Almost three years ago, a new, improved PHP extension has been released to connect PHP to the MySQL Server: the MySQLi extension. Back in spring 2004, Zak Greant and Georg Richter published an article outlining the major goals and the major features of the new MySQLi extension. Additionally, the authors answered the question why all PHP 5 users should switch from the old PHP MySQL extension to the new MySQLi extension. Almost everything what has been said in 2004 is still valid. It is still recommended to upgrade your scripts to use the MySQLi extensions. "

This was written anno 2007 ... Today we're 2010 ... might be time to say goodbye to the standard MySQL extension and say hello to MySQLi(mproved).

Too bad to hear you haven't worked with PHP for a while ... you were doing a great job !
Anyways ... any chance you might be interested in giving it an upgrade ?

Thanks Munk !

Hey Roel thanks for the reply - I see what you mean now, yes they're just talking about the db connector/interface being improved aren't they, not the actual MySQL db itself being EOL'ed, I thought you were saying MySQL was being killed off for a minute! Wink

I won't be upgrading the scripts though I'm afraid, I really don't want to spend any more time on the project really, have moved on now as you can tell from the lack of posts etc on the forum!!  From what I read of mysqli it won't completely supersede the original mysql interface anyway until at least PHP 6 and even then the original mysql interface will still work fine, so it should be OK for a while.

If you want any help though upgrading the simpleauth script feel free to post and I'll try and help if you've hit a dead end with it.

Good luck! Smiley
